Lion

The Lion is globally recognized as the “King of the Jungle” with its very distinctive and recognizable character. A symbol of regalness throughout human history, the once powerful and mighty beast is now in danger. According to Wikipedia, the lion is a vulnerable species, having seen a possibly irreversible population decline of 30 to 50 percent over the past two decades in its African range. Lion populations are untenable outside of designated reserves and national parks. Lions may soon become extinct in large parts of Africa. According to a commission set up under the auspices of the World Conservation Union (IUCN), there is not a single population of lions in West or Central Africa that is large enough to be viable. Although there are thousands of lions in East Africa, little is known about the numbers in countries such as Cameroon, Mali and Senegal.
